Also the vessel is constrained by her draft so it can not alter her course. And in this situation it’s the fault of the sailingboat.
Aside from a huge event like the Olympics, commercial traffic almost always has priority over pleasure craft. Port authorities don’t give a crap about most sailboat races.

I’m sure the tanker probably had a pilot on board to enter most ports. Sail boat is wrong. It is impossible to maneuver a tanker like a small sail boat.

In maritime rule, powered vessel must give way to non-powered vessel.
I think yacht which is moved by wind is non-powered boat.
so, tanker must give way to yacht. but tanker’s captain couldn’t see the yacht.
anyway, the most problem is why tanker came to sailing reggata site.

That was not a Yacht…. but yea it’s the sailor’s fault. You know it takes miles for those oil ships to stop.

How do you not see a huge orange tanker header right for you? I don’t believe sail boats have the right of way in a shipping channel since the ship cannot maneuver.
